Best 10 Oculus Rift ZOMBIE VR Games You Can Play Right Now
Few days I wrote an article about the BEST 7 Zombie themed games we found available for the Samsung Gear VR.
I’ve been asked about other platforms including the Oculus Rift. If you would like to see a similar article for a different platform please let me know.
Here are the Best 10 Oculus Rift Zombie Games you can download right now!
1. Arizona Sunshine
$39.99
Arizona Sunshine is developed from the ground up for HTC Vive and Oculus Touch. Step in the midst of a zombie apocalypse as if you were really there, freely move around and explore a post-apocalyptic world, and handle motion-controlled weapons with real-life movements — putting the undead back to rest is more thrilling and satisfying than ever before.
- Real-life weapon handling: Using VR motion controllers, handle, fire, and reload over 25 different weapons with real-life movements. Anticipate attacks, manage your ammo and aim down the sights to blast your enemies to undead pieces.
- Freely explore your surroundings: Move around without restraints to explore a series of huge southwestern American environments, including blistering-hot deserts, treacherous canyons and deep, dark mines.
- Enjoy a full-size single player campaign: The campaign mode is built in bite-sized VR chunks that flow together to form a full narrative. Whether you want to jump in for a short session or stay for the complete ride, we’ve got you covered.
- Join forces in co-op multiplayer: Combine forces with a friend in co-op campaign mode or multiplayer Horde mode for up to four players. But beware, more warm brains mean more, hungry undead.
- Put yourself through serious survival: Scavenge the environment, loot your enemies and manage your ammo and consumables.
- Experience unprecedented VR realism: When powered by an Intel® Core™ i7 processor or equivalent, Arizona Sunshine brings unprecedented realism to VR gaming with zombie mutilation, destructible environments, and an overall cinematic and immersive experience.
- Play it only in VR: Arizona Sunshine is a VR shooter exclusively built for VR from the ground up. Step into the midst of a zombie attack as if you were really there and take on undead creatures close enough to touch.
2. Dying Light
Want to play Dying Light on your Oculus Rift?
Check out this simple tweak to Dying Light to enable Oculus Rift support. Of course there is no menu option for it, that would be too easy. You will need to tweak a file to do so.
Dying Light Oculus Setup
- Depending on how you installed Dying light. It would be under one of these two locations Browse to either: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\ OR user/my documents/dying light/
- Edit (notepad is fine) the video.scr. If you cannot see the file. Then change windows explorer to view all file types.
- At the end of the file add the following line OculusEnabled(). End of file should look like: AmbientOcclusion(1) MotionBlur(1) AntiAliasing(1) OculusEnabled()
- Save and start your game
Dying Light Oculus Rift Experience/Performance
- Subtitles and on-screen tutorial instructions are close to unreadable. This is largely due to the 1080p DK2
- Black boxes just seem to randomly appear, then disappear.
- Performance was pretty chopping with my setup (GTX 780) I turned OFF Blur, HBAO and DOF to get smooth frame rates.
- As with other first-person type games I’ve played on the Rift. Nausea kicks in quick and hard. Movements that are normal with a mouse/keyboard/monitor combo quickly cause nausea on the Rift. Side stepping seems to hit me the hardest. I lasted only 10 minutes, I was done.
- There is no Oculus camera enabled for motion tracking. Just head tracking with the headset.
- To be fair to the developer Techland. They do not advertise this as being an official VR game so its nice they have something. Just bring your barf bucket.
- As a side note. Seems that PC game pricing is matching consoles in many more cases. PC games were priced around $49.99, console $59.99. This game now costs $59.99 on steam and I don’t even get a box!
